Houghton shuts out Morrisville State field hockey

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Jennifer Huyett scored twice to lead host Houghton College field hockey to a 2-0 win over Morrisville State College Wednesday afternoon in Houghton.

Huyett gave the Highlanders the early 1-0 lead, netting the score 11:52 into the first half off a pass from Carissa Lang.

As time on the clock expired in the contest, Huyett netted her second score of the afternoon on a penalty corner pass from Lang, giving Houghton the 2-0 final victory.

Morrisville State’s Stephanie Smith (Cedarville, NY) recorded the loss in goal, saving 10, as the Mustangs fell to 1-2 overall.

Emily VanEenwyk saved none in the win for Houghton as the Highlanders held the 24-3 advantage in shots.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, hosting Rosemont College at 1 p.m. in Morrisville.

Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.

Morrisville State College offers more than 75 bachelor and associate degrees and options. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
