Manhattanville nets 1-0 decision over Mustang field hockey

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Kayla Meenan netted the game winner with less than 19 minutes to go in the contest to lift host Manhattanville College Valiants to a 1-0 victory over visiting Morrisville State College Wednesday afternoon in Purchase.

Playing to a scoreless first half, Morrisville State keeper Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) saved an initial shot by Maura Bruen, but was unable to recover as Meenan collected the ball and shot past Pellegrino for the score at 51:38.

Danielle Scicutella secured the shut out win in net for the Valiants, turning away five, including two in the final 10 minutes of the contest.

Pellegrino saved seven in the loss for the Mustangs, as they fall to 3-5 overall.

Morrisville State returns to the field Friday, hosting SUNYAC rival SUNY Brockport at 4 p.m. in Morrisville.

Morrisville State begins active membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2009-10 and is eligible for NCAA Championship Tournament play.

Morrisville State College offers more than 75 bachelor and associate degrees and options. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
