IT hands Morrisville State men 78-58 loss

UTICA, NY – On a night used to honor seniors Diloo Brown (Harlem, NY/Technical Careers Institute), Floyd Fitzpatrick Thorne (Brooklyn, NY/Paul Smith’s College) and Aaron Swancott (Boonville, NY/Adirondack), the trio did not disappoint, combining for 37 points and leading the SUNYIT men’s basketball team to its program-record eleventh straight victory with a 78-58 win over the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs in the team’s final home game of the regular season Wednesday night. The Wildcats finished 12-1 at home and are currently 19-4 overall, while Morrisville fell to 6-16 on the year.

After the upperclassmen were honored before the game for Senior Night, the trio came out and made the first three plays of the contest, as Brown hit a three-pointer off an assist by Fitzpatrick Thorne and would be followed by Swancott assisting on a three by junior Kevin Cappiello (Youngsville, NY/Sullivan West) on the team’s next possession.

The trio flourished the rest of the game as well, as Brown led all scorers with 18 points while adding four assists and three assists, Fitzpatrick Thorne had 12 points, five assists and three steals and Swancott registered seven points, four assists and two steals.

The Wildcats, who never trailed in the contest, built a 10-point lead, 18-8, in the first six minutes of action and would eventually take a 15-point lead into the break, 42-27. They would cruise in the second half, extending their lead by as much as 25 before ultimately picking up the 20-point victory.

Junior David Golembiowski (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) had 15 points and six boards, while Cappiello finished with 14 points and game-highs of six assists and five steals.

Bryan Eddy scored 17 points for Morrisville, while Ron Tarver chipped in 14 points.

The Wildcats will close out their regular season this weekend in Pennsylvania, as they travel to take on Penn State Abington on Saturday at 2:00 pm and Penn State Berks on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
