Morrisville State College to host ice hockey development camp

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College along with the Mustang Hockey program will host a development ice hockey camp Monday’s and Wednesday’s in August beginning August 9th through the 25th at the IcePlex on the Morrisville State campus.

The camp will run Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the college’s IcePlex facility. The camp is designed specifically for top level players devoted to further developing specific hockey skills necessary to succeed in the game of hockey at a high level of competition and take their game to the next level. The primary focus will be training and development for high school level players.

Camp participants will receive hands-on instruction from the Morrisville State College hockey staff and players, led by head coach Brian Grady. Players will be exposed to six high intensity on-ice sessions devoted to the improvement of individual skills such as skating, puck control, passing, receiving, shooting, body checking and situation play, with additional power skating dynamic sessions and small area game competitions.

Also included is a specialized off-ice training program with over six hours of intensive off-ice conditioning, strength training, hand-eye coordination and development exercises and instructional tactics designed to improve balance, quickness, strength, flexibility and endurance. In addition, players will utilize the off-ice shooting range to strengthen the speed, accuracy, and effectiveness of the wrist, snap, slap, and backhand shots. The camp will also include slide board and puck control exercises.

The deadline for camp registration is Friday, July 30 and the total cost is $175 for all sessions, which includes tuition for the program, a camp jersey, and an individual coach’s evaluation report. Full payment must accompany all applications prior to the registration deadline.
