Morrisville State women's soccer falls to Potsdam

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Nicole Brown (Fabius/Fabius Pompey) and Nicole Volpi (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) each netted two goals to lead the visiting Potsdam State Bears over Morrisville State Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.

Potsdam’s Brown beat Morrisville State goalkeeper, Katie Tiffany (DeRuyter/DeRuyter), just 2:25 into the contest on a corner kick play from Maureen Curley (Madrid/Madrid-Waddington) to give the Bears the early 1-0 lead.

Minutes later, Volpi extended the lead to two, netting a score from Brown on a through pass. At 29:18, Volpi tallied her second of the afternoon giving the Bears a comfortable three goal lead at halftime.

In the second half, Brown and Jenette Rutan (McGraw/McGraw) put the game away for Potsdam, adding two additional scores.

Brown finished the contest with two goals and an assist to lead Potsdam on the afternoon. Goalkeeper Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) earned the win in net, saving two.

Tiffany tallied 13 saves in the loss as Morrisville State falls to 0-5-1 on the season.

Morrisville State enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2007. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
