BROCKPORT, NY - Sophomore Kelly Briscoe (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) hammered a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to cap a five-run inning as The College at Brockport Softball team cruised to a 9-2 victory in the first game of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader against Morrisville State College Wednesday at the Clark V. Whited Complex in Brockport. The Golden Eagles came from behind to post an 11-4 victory in the nightcap highlighted by a Courtney Pavlock (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) home run in the third inning.

Brockport (12-8 overall, 5-3 SUNYAC) fell behind early as Morrisville (4-19, 1-11) scored a run in the first inning of game one. The Golden Eagles tied the game with a run in the second inning and took a 6-1 lead with the five-run third. After the Mustangs cut the lead to 6-2 with a run in the fifth, Brockport crossed the plate three more times in the bottom of the inning for a 9-2 lead.

In game two, Morrisville scored twice in the top of the first inning and led 2-0 until the bottom of the third, when Courtney Turchan (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) hit a two-out double through the right side of the infield and Hilary Dank (Fairport, NY/Fairport) chased her home with a run-scoring single. Pavlock followed with her first home run of the season – a shot over the left centerfield fence – to give Brockport a 3-2 lead.

In the fourth, Brockport scored seven times as the Golden Eagles batted around the order and scored all seven runs with two outs in the inning. Rachel Zimmerman (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) led off with a double before the next two batters were retired with a strikeout and a ground out, but Brockport delivered six consecutive hits to break the game open. Dank highlighted the inning with a two-run double to right-center.

For the day, Turchan led the Golden Eagles with a 6-for-7 day with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Dank was 4-for-8 with two runs and four RBI and Zimmerman added three hits. Kalie Peters had a pair of hits, including her second home run of the season, while Pavlock, Briscoe, Nikki Odrabina (Depew, Maryvale) and Melissa Boyle (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) chipped in two hits each. Briscoe earned the victory in game one, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out four batters. Sophomore Hollie Ary (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) was the game-two winning pitcher with four runs (none earned) on six hits and six strikeouts.
