Harassment

SUNY Morrisville is dedicated to fostering a positive environment for learning and ensuring the safety, rights, and dignity of every member of the College community, where each is free to express themselves and enjoy reasonable access to an education, institutional resources, employment, and participation in institutional programs and activities. To that end, students are encouraged to assume individual responsibility for respecting the rights and dignity of others and for helping to promote the free and open exchange of ideas in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Appropriate policies and practices are narrowly tailored in the Student Code of Conduct to only restrict such speech-related conduct that substantially interferes with others’ educational opportunities, or otherwise fits the definition of legally-prohibited conduct, such as threats of violence, harassment or discrimination.

Discrimination/Harassment is defined as unwelcome oral, written, graphic, electronic or physical conduct directed against a person based on one or more of that person’s protected characteristics or statuses (race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin per federal laws or on the basis age, color, religion, creed, disability, marital status, veteran status, national origin, race, gender, genetic predisposition or carrier status, or sexual orientation per NYS laws), which is so severe or pervasive that it effectively denies the individual’s reasonable access to institutional resources, employment, academic performance or participation in institutional programs or activities and creates a working, learning, program or activity environment that a reasonable person would find intimidating, hostile or offensive.

Under Title IX all parties involved have the right to have any complaints of discrimination or sexual harassment directed to Sarah Piejkos-Brown, who can be reached at 315.684.6997 or via email at piejkos@morrisville.edu.
