Instructional Delivery Policy Purpose
As part of its strong commitment to teaching and experiential learning, Morrisville prides itself in traditional classroom face-to-face instruction, faculty availability, and student access. Full-time faculty are expected to maintain a routine presence on campus to support our campus values of student centeredness, applied learning, and academic excellence. The purpose of this policy is to re-affirm its expectations of full-time faculty presence and accessibility on campus while supporting opportunities for diverse teaching methods.
Policy
During the academic year, a full-time obligation—whether for tenured, tenure-track, or lecturer faculty— minimally includes a five-day a week obligation to meet class scheduling and delivery needs. Class scheduling is determined by SUNY Morrisville based on operational and student needs. When not delivering classroom-based instruction or meeting other on-site obligations, faculty are free to work part of the time at off-campus locations to support course preparation, research, scholarship, or other creative activities. Faculty office hours should mirror the delivery methods, and students should have equitable access to office hours. Faculty should plan for at minimum 5 office hours per week, with the ability for exceptions based on teaching load.
Online class limits for full-time faculty
All teaching assignments and responsibilities, including those in the academic year, winter, and summer sessions, are subject to operational needs and require approval by the respective dean. As part of their primary obligation, a full-time faculty member may teach no more than two fully online courses per semester (a maximum of 6 credit hours). Exceptions may be approved for specific degree programs or workforce-development initiatives, as needed.
