The Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse team dropped their second straight contest in the north country, falling 18-5 to non-conference host Potsdam Saturday afternoon in Potsdam.
With the loss, Morrisville State drops to 1-5 overall.
Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with three goals, while Megan Carlin (Pawling, N.Y.) added two others. Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) and Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each collected assists, registering two and one, respectively.
Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) saved seven in the first 30 minutes of play, recording the loss, before being replaced by Vernoique Krohn (Amsterdam, N.Y.) who added four additional saves in the second half.
Potsdam recorded the first nine scores in the opening 11 minutes of the game, jumping out to an early 9-0 lead before Morrisville State was able to get on the scoreboard with two straight midway through the first.
Potsdam rattled off three additional tallies before the half for a 12-2 advantage, a lead that proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome.
Morrisville State struggled in the first half, as Potsdam forced 15 turnovers, and held a 24-3 advantage in shots. The Bears also won the draw control battle 11-4, and ground ball game 15-9, as the Mustangs struggled to get out of the gates.
Morrisville State returns to the field next Saturday, traveling to the College of St. Elizabeth to open North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.
