SUNY Morrisville is committed to providing students equal access to campus programs, services and facilities. The Accessibility Services Center (the “ASC”) will coordinate reasonable accommodations and auxiliary aids to ensure full participation for students with disabilities. Our mission is to facilitate an accessible and inclusive college environment.

Getting to the ASC

The Accessibility Services Center is located on the second floor of the Donald G. Butcher Library on the Morrisville campus.

Walk or roll straight and go past the Campus Bookstore. On your left, there will be stairs or a passageway that leads to a room with elevator access.

Now that you are on the second level, on your left is the Donald Butcher Library.

There are two ADA push buttons to access the first floor of the library. One is outside, and one is in the breezeway. Both will open the doors farthest to the left. The doors will open out.

If you need the elevator, go straight back to the Tutoring Center and past the stairs. From there take a right and the elevator will be on your left. Take it to the second floor.

Q: What is accessibility?

A: Accessibility refers to the practice of designing experiences including environment, products, and services in a way that all people, regardless of disability or ability, can fully participate.

Q: What are the differences between accessibility in high school and college?

Differences in Policies and Procedures
High School College
The school is responsible for identifying students with disabilities The student must self identify or disclose his/her disability
The school must provide the assessment of disability, classify disability, and involve parents The student must provide documentation of his/her disability to the designated office
School staff will discuss academic progress with parents or legal guardians The student is considered an adult with privacy and confidentiality protections. Staff cannot talk with parents or legal guardians about the student's academic progress
The school must develop an Individualized Educational Program The student must request specific accommodations and provide supporting evidence through documentation

Differences in Accommodations

Q: What accommodations and services are available?

Once approved, common academic accommodations include:

Q: How do I sign up for accommodations?

A: Students who will be requesting support services must identify themselves to the Accessibility Services Center. To verify eligibility, documentation must be provided that clearly indicates the diagnosis of a disability. To register, please complete the following:

  1. Fill out an Accommodation Request form using the following link https://morrisville-accommodate.symplicity.com/
    • Select ‘Student’, select ≡, select ‘Accommodation’, then ‘Accessibility Request’. Make sure to complete all fields and click submit.
  2. Provide the Accessibility Services Center copies of your most recent IEP or 504 Plan. Documentation can be sent to our email ASCTesting@morrisville.edu Additional documentation may be required based on your request. For example, medical, psycho-educational or neuropsychological documentation.
  3. All students must participate in an intake meeting with an ASC staff member. This meeting can be in person or virtual.

Q: What documentation is required?

A: Students seeking accommodations should provide the Accessibility Services Center copies of their most recent IEP or 504 Plan. For example, medical, psycho-educational or neuropsychological documentation. Students should speak with an ASC staff member to discuss the specific documentation required for the situation.

Q: Who will know about my disability?

A: ASC staff must share some basic information about your needs and accommodations with certain faculty and staff in order to ensure that you have equal access to all experiences at SUNY Morrisville. An example is that your professors must know that you are registered as a student with a disability so that they can provide you with accommodations in their class. Generally, your professors will not know the specific type of disability you have unless you choose to share this information.

Q: Do I need to tell my professors?

Once an ASC staff member has approved your accommodations, the ASC Student Information System (Accommodate), will generate a Letter of Accommodations (LOA). This letter will certify that the student has a disability and lists the required accommodations.

Students are required to sign the LOA, then either email or bring paper copies of the LOA to be acknowledged and preferably signed by each faculty member teaching their classes. All parties are invited to contact the ASC if there are any questions.

Q: Will my accommodations appear on my transcript?

A: No, your college transcript or any other official document issued by the registrar’s office will never contain information related to your disability status, registration, or accommodations.

Q: What do I do if I’m not sure if I have a disability?

A: Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Please speak with an ASC staff member and we will discuss your options and help in anyway that we can!

Q: I just experienced a concussion or other temporary injury, how can the ASC help me?

A: Many students will experience an injury or temporary condition that limits their ability to function in their everyday life. The ASC can help! Speak with an ASC staff member and they will discuss your condition and needs with you. There are several accommodations available depending on your injury. If you are a student athlete who is in concussion protocol, you are strongly encouraged to register for accommodations at the ASC.

Q: What should I do if I need help accessing a building or other areas around campus, for example due to issues with snow removal or Automatic Door Openers?

A: Please call or email the ASC immediately. Make sure you include detailed information about the location you are having trouble with including building name and door/sidewalk location. The ASC will make a direct request to facilities to take care of the issue.
