The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team defeated the visiting Keystone College Giants in non-conference action Thursday afternoon, 3-2.
After an evenly played first ten minutes of the game, Morrisville State (5-2-1 overall) began to find the creases in the visiting Keystone’s defense, but junior goalkeeper Dany O’Rourke was able to come up with a few big saves. The Giants then swung the momentum in their favor as they netted the first goal of the contest at 20:30 when Ryan Ehrhardt received a pass through the back line from Michael Wells and placed a shot past Mustang goalkeeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.).
Less than fifteen minutes later, Morrisville State answered back with a goal from Karim Ouedraogo (Brukina Faso), coming off of a Joey Plummer (Gates, N.Y.) cross, evening the score going into halftime.
The Mustangs picked up right where they left off in the second half scoring two more goals before Keystone answered back with a goal at 81:36.
Freshman defender Danny Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) scored the second Mustang goal, netting his third penalty kick of the season, while Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) picked up the game winner with his goal at 68:54, which was assisted by Jacob Chase (Cooperstown, N.Y.).
Michael Wells scored the second goal for the Giants, unassisted.
Larkin earned his fifth win for the Mustangs with five saves, while O’Rourke recorded the loss with five saves.
Morrisville State is back in action on Saturday, September 23rd as they travel to face conference rival Cazenovia College at 12:00 pm.
