The Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse team collected their fifth straight victory Friday afternoon, posting a convincing 18-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision over visiting Lancaster Bible College on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The Mustangs remain untouched in conference play with a 5-0 record, improving their overall record to 6-5. The Chargers fall to 2-11 overall, 1-5 in NEAC action.
Whitney Heise and Nicole Valinteno posted the lone Lancaster Bible tallies on the day, while Cheyenne Benson posted the loss in net, turning away 12.
Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) paved the way for the Mustangs with five scores each, with Wood adding two assists. Megan Carlin (Pawling, N.Y.) posted three goals and assisted another as three additional teammates notched tallies, including Rachel Perine (Cortland, N.Y.) who scored twice.
Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) had five stops in nearly 43 minutes of action in net for the win, before Veronique Krohn (Amsterdam, N.Y.) added one in the final 17.
It took a bit for the Mustangs to get out of the gates, but an unassisted fast break tally by Perine at 25:41 ignited the offensive unit to rally for nine straight additional scores for over the ensuing 15 minutes for a commanding 10-0 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half.
Valinteno put the Chargers on the board at the 9:08 mark with a free position tally, but Wood and Young regained the double digit lead for Morrisville State with back-to-back scores.
Heise brought Lancaster Bible within 10 with an unassisted goal at the 4:07 mark, but that’s as close as the Chargers would get as Morrisville State added another in the closing minutes of the half, and held the visitors scoreless in the second while rattling off five more tallies for the win.
Morrisville State out shot Lancaster Bible 38-10, and won the ground ball battle 45-22, while controlling the center with a 15-6 advantage in draw controls.
The Mustangs return to the field tomorrow, hosting Wilson College at 3 p.m.
