Morrisville State College Athletic Director, Greg Carroll, has announced the hiring of Fred Wallace as the head coach of the Mustangs women’s volleyball and softball programs.
Wallace comes to Morrisville State after nine successful volleyball seasons at Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania, where he also served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor. He currently holds a 220-182 (.547) record at the Division III level in 13 years of coaching collegiate volleyball.
While at W&J, Wallace posted a 143-129 (.526) overall record, leading the President’s to four ECAC Division III Tournament bids, a President’s Athletic Conference Championship title in 2005, six straight appearances in the conference championship final four, along with three players of the year awards and over 50 all-conference player honors. His team has qualified seven times for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Academic All-American Team award.
Prior to W&J, Wallace served as the head coach of volleyball and softball at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford for five seasons, appearing in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference final four for four straight years in volleyball while earning Coach of the Year honors in 1998. In 2000, the Panthers set a school record for victories in a season and qualified for the ECAC Southern Regional Tournament, where they placed third overall.
In five seasons at the helm of the softball program, Wallace guided the team to the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference championship tournament in each season, claiming the championship title in 2003, as several earned all-conference throughout his time with the Panthers.
Wallace earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from The College at Brockport in 1991 following an eight year career in the United States Air Force. He began his coaching career at Brockport where he served as the head men’s volleyball coach for two seasons, and assistant for the women’s program from 1991-93.
Wallace then moved to the scholastic ranks, coaching the girls’ varsity team at Skaneateles High for five years, leading the team to a New York State Championship in 1997-98.
Outside of the collegiate ranks, Wallace remains active in the volleyball club circuit, and is also on the selection committee for the ECAC Volleyball Championships. He has also served as the head volleyball coach for the Empire State Games Scholastic Girl’s Division, and Director of Central New York Volleyball for the Empire State Games.
