Knack makes tutoring more accessible and flexible for SUNY Morrisville students. Through Knack, students can connect with Morrisville peer tutors or access professional tutoring on demand, 24/7.
What is Knack?
Knack is SUNY Morrisville's tutoring platform. It connects students with trained Morrisville peer tutors who have successfully completed the courses they tutor and provides access to professional tutoring on demand.
Is tutoring through Knack free?
Yes. There is no cost to students to use Knack. Both peer tutoring and professional tutoring are included in SUNY Morrisville's Knack service.
Who are the Morrisville peer tutors?
Peer tutors are SUNY Morrisville students who have earned a B+ or better in the courses they tutor. Peer tutors are paid and complete tutor training before working with students.
How do I find a peer tutor?
Sign in to Knack with your SUNY Morrisville ID and password and search for your course.
If a tutor is available, you can connect and schedule a session directly through Knack.
What if there isn't a peer tutor for my course?
Submit a tutoring request anyway!
Requests help us identify courses where students need support and recruit additional Morrisville peer tutors.
You can also use Knack's professional tutoring option for on-demand assistance.
Is professional tutoring available through Knack?
Yes. Knack is not limited to peer tutoring.
Professional tutoring is available on demand, 24/7, in a wide range of subject areas. Professional tutors hold at least a master's degree in their area of expertise. Students can meet with a professional tutor online for live support or submit a question or paper for asynchronous feedback.

How do I connect with a professional tutor?
Sign in to Knack, go to Find Tutors, and select Request an on-demand session. Choose the subject and describe what you need help with, then select Connect with an expert tutor.

Can graduate students use Knack?
Yes. Graduate students can use Knack, including professional tutoring. Graduate students can access the same tutoring options available to other Morrisville students, including on-demand professional tutoring for course content, writing, papers, and other academic work.
Where does peer tutoring take place?
Peer tutoring can take place in person or virtually.
In-person sessions should take place in an appropriate public campus location, such as the Library, STUAC, Dining Hall, a study area, or a classroom. Tutoring sessions may not take place in residence hall rooms or off-campus residences.
How do students and peer tutors communicate?
Students and tutors can communicate and schedule sessions through Knack, so there is no need to exchange personal phone numbers or email addresses.
Does Knack replace the Math Center or Writing Center?
No. Knack is one part of Morrisville's academic support network.
The Math Center and Writing Center continue to provide specialized support. Knack expands students' options through course-specific peer tutoring and on-demand professional tutoring.
Students are encouraged to use whichever resource, or combination of resources, best meets their needs.
Why did Morrisville move to Knack?
SUNY Morrisville moved to Knack to make tutoring more accessible and flexible for all students.
Knack allows students to connect directly with trained Morrisville peer tutors, schedule sessions at times and locations that work for them, and choose to meet in person or virtually. Students can request tutoring even when a peer tutor is not currently available, which helps us identify where additional tutors are needed.
Knack also expands the support available to students through 24/7 on-demand professional tutoring.
Our goal is to make it easier for students to find and use academic support when they need it.
