Abington picks up conference win, hands Morrisville State women 60-50 loss

Visiting Penn State Abington women's basketball team picked up their first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Sunday afternoon, topping host Morrisville State College 60-50 in Morrisville.



Abington opened the game with an 18-0 run over the first eight minutes before Nijee Scott (Bronx, NY) hit two free throws to put the Mustangs on the board. Plagued by turnovers and poor shooting from the floor in the first half, the Nittany Lions built up a 36-14 lead over Morrisville State at the break.



In the second half, Morrisville State attempted a comeback going on a 13-4 run over the opening minutes of the half, but Abington hit key free throws down the stretch for the win.



Samantha Frick led all scorers with 23 points for the Nittany Lions, as four were in double figures for Abington. Trish Watson added 13, Elizabeth Hilbert 12 and Brittany Middleton 10, with Hilbert and Middleton leading the Lions with eight and seven rebounds, respectively.



Morrisville State had three in double figures, with Nijah Townsend (Bronx, NY) leading the way with 16 points and 14 boards. Scott added 15 points and seven rebounds, assisting three, while LaQuiesha Jenkins (Syracuse, NY) tallied 11 points.



Morrisville State drops to 2-8 overall, 2-6 in conference action, and returns to the court Wednesday, hosting Cazenovia College at 5 p.m. in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities.
