Adams posts double-double in 63-40 win for Mustangs

Freshman forward Caitlyn Adams (Sherburne, N.Y.) posted a collegiate high 22 points, and added 13 rebounds for her first double-double, leading Morrisville State College women’s basketball to a 63-40 win over host Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon in Chambersburg.

The victory is the second straight for the Mustangs, who improve to 4-7 overall and pull even at 2-2 in NEAC action.

Adams hit 9-of-16 shots from the floor in the contest, going perfect from the free throw line (4-4) while collecting six offensive boards.

Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) added 14 points while dishing out four assists and stealing five, as teammate Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) controlled the glass for Morrisville State, pulling down 15 boards. Paul also contributed nine points, two assists and five steals to the win.

Morrisville State trailed by one after the opening period, 25-26, before attacking the post and hitting  Adams for eight of the Mustangs 10 points in the first five minutes of the second, opening the half with a 10-0 run.

Wilson pulled to within three with 12 minutes to go, but the Mustangs went put together a 12-3 spurt over the next three minutes for the 12 point advantage that later increased to as many as 25 for the conference win.

The Mustangs gained 33 points off 27 Phoenix miscues on the day, and edged Wilson on the offensive boards, 14-9, while holding the 38-14 scoring advantage in the final twenty.

Morrisville State returns to the court Tuesday, hosting SUNY IT at 3 p.m. in the STUAC Gymnasium.
