Brewer goalkeeper Maggie Brelis (Cambridge, MA) saved a game total 12 to post a 2-0 shutout victory for visiting Vassar College field hockey Friday afternoon over host Morrisville State College in Morrisville.

Morrisville State drops to 0-8 on the season, while the Brewers improve to 5-4 overall.

Vassar was finally able to get on the board 42 seconds before the end of the first half, as Rachel Waldman (New Milford, CT) found the ball in front of the net and pushed it past Morrisville State keeper, Laura Blumenfeld (Rockland, NY), for the score.

Maura McCarthy (Blue Bell, PA) added the second Brewer tally, sweeping the left post drive from Kerrin Poole (Scituate, MA) for the two goal advantage on a penalty corner opportunity in the 62nd minute.

Morrisville State had plenty of opportunities in the second half, out shooting the Brewers 17-7, but Brelis turned away eight to secure the non-conference victory.

Blumenfeld saved seven in the loss for the Mustangs, who return to the field tomorrow against the University of Rochester. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Drake Field.

Morrisville State kicks off its “Mustangs Against Cancer” campaign tomorrow, raising awareness and funds for the Carol M. Baldwin Research Foundation of CNY.
