Davis leads Morrisville State men's hoops to 78-68 victory over Penn State Berks

Sophomore Mickey Davis (Jamesville, NY) netted a team high 20 points to lead visiting Morrisville State College to a 78-68 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon over host Penn State Berks in Reading.



Morrisville State notches their sixth straight win to improve to 9-6 overall, and remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0. Penn State Berks drops to 2-11 with the loss, 2-5 in NEAC action.



Davis added three rebounds, two steals and two blocks while three additional teammates posted double figures in the win. Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, NY) tallied 14 points and led the Mustangs with eight rebounds, while Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, NY) and Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY) chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.



Dontez Reid had 16 to lead the Nittany Lions efforts, with teammate Tom Smith adding 14 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Schmidt contributed 13 points and a team best 14 rebounds as Shawn Green rounded out top scoring for Berks with 10, adding three assists and three steals.



Berks posted a 37-30 lead at the break and led by as many as 12 with just over 16 minutes to go in the second half, before Morrisville State went on a 23-4 run over a span of six minutes to claim the seven point advantage.



Green cut the Mustang lead to four with 41 seconds to go, but Morrisville State hit key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.



Morrisville State shot 39.3 percent from the floor in the first half, but rallied in the second to hit 15-of-27 shots (55.6) while shooting a near perfect 20-of-22 from the free throw line in the contest.



Berks hit 27-of-66 shots in the contest (40.9 percent) and was 10-for-14 from the free throw line, while holding the 40-30 advantage on the glass.



The Mustangs return to the court tomorrow, traveling to Keystone College. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. on the Keystone campus.
