MORRISVILLE, NY— The work of three artists from Morrisville State College is on display now through May 9 at the Earlville Opera House.

The exhibit, “Changing Landscapes” is a multi-artist installation featuring the work of seven Upstate New York women artists. The exhibit is part of Climates of Change, a Central New York Art Poetry and Theater Festival, in collaboration with the college, which will be held April 13-20 at various venues. The festival will explore the meanings and impacts of climate change within Central New York and beyond.

Featured artists from the MSC campus are:

  • Lisa Iannello, of New Berlin, grants coordinator
  • Aida Khalil, of Syracuse, associate professor in the Plant Sciences Department
  • Leigh Yardley, of Hubbardsville, adjunct instructor of art

“The landscape is a crucial influence on our private understanding of the environment,” said Timothy Gerken, associate professor of humanities at MSC who curated the exhibit. “While art does not provide solutions, it can facilitate a discussion of what a community wants to do about climate change.”

Yardley’s work examines the cultural detachment from the environment. Iannello’s installations merge a sensory awareness from a medical condition with plein air landscapes painted throughout the last decade. Khalil’s work bridges the gap between object making and space making, using a wide variety of materials in mixed media sculpture.

A reception for the “Changing Landscapes” artists will be held at the Earlville Opera House, 18 East Main Street, Earlville, on March 21, from noon-3 p.m.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information, visit www.earlvilleoperahouse.com. For information about Climates of Change, visit http://climatesofchange.morrisville.edu/.
