Keuka tops NEAC Northern Division play, remains undefeated

Morrisville State College hosted the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Northern Division Volleyball Pool Play Tournament Saturday in Morrisville, and Keuka College posted two wins to remain undefeated in the North.



In the first of the day's action, Cazenovia College posted a three-game comeback over host Morrisville State, claiming the 3-1 win with match scores of 15-5, 25-17, 25-12, and 25-23.



Jessica Converse (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) led the Wildcat charge, posting a team high 16 kills, three service aces and 20 defensive digs. Teammate Megan Pomarico (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) added 10 kills to Cazenovia's tallies, while Noelle Sippel (Webster, NY/Bishop Kearney) put up 24 assists.



Morrisville State's Sarah Keyser (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye) recorded 17 kills, adding four solo blocks to her tallies, in the Mustangs efforts. Angelina Ciaschi (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) added 10 kills and five digs, while Deanna Zbikowski (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied 26 assists. Devan Hirst (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) led the defensive efforts with 14 digs.



In the next match, SUNY IT swept SUNY Cobleskill 3-0, with match scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-16.



Kaitlyn Harrington (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) led SUNY IT with 15 kills and 14 defensive digs, as teammate Juleah Vedder (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) posted 14 kills, and 17 digs. Nicole Higgins (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) recorded 30 assists.



Brooke Burke (Lansing, NY/Lansing), Elizabeth Stap (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) and Maggie Trombly (Chateaugay, NY/Chateaugay) each had five kills in the Cobleskill efforts. Nancy Stephens (Warnersville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) tallied 13 digs.



Keuka College followed with a 3-0 decision over Cazenovia College with match wins of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-17.



Raelle Naegely (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) led the Storm with 14 kills, two aces and five digs while teammate Morgan Engelbert (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas Edison) posted eight kills. Katy Geers (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) put up 33 assists.



Converse and Carissa Wheeler (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga) each had five kills in Cazenovia's efforts, Converse posting 12 digs. Sippel had 12 assists.



Morrisville State and Cobleskill went the stretch, with the Mustangs posting a 3-2 victory with scores of 27-25, 18-25, 20-25, 25-15, and 15-12.



Wright led the Mustangs comeback with 17 kills and 22 digs while teammates Keyser and Ciaschi each posted 10 kills. Keyser had five solo blocks and Hirst 22 digs in the Mustangs defensive efforts. Zbikowski recorded 34 assists.



Trombly and Burke each posted 13 kills for Cobleskill, as Trombley added 18 digs. Stephens posted a game high 37 digs while Krista Grady (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) had 28 assists.



In the final match of the day's action, Keuka posted a 3-0 victory over SUNY IT to remain undefeated in conference play, posting match wins of 26-24, 25-14, and 25-22 over the Wildcats.



Naegely led the Storm with 13 kills, two service aces and six digs, while teammate Sarah Fredricks (Milton, ONT/EC Drury) added 10 kills. Brittany Smyder (Avon, NY/Avon) recorded nine kills, while leading the defensive game with 2.5 blocks.



Vedder led the Wildcats with 17 kills and 11 digs as Harrington tallied 11 kills, two service aces and 16 digs. Higgins recorded 25 assists.



Keuka remains at the top of the Northern Division with a 6-0 record, followed by SUNY IT at 4-2, Cazenovia and Morrisville at 2-4 and Cobleskill at 1-5.



Conference action continues tomorrow at 10 a.m. with Cazenovia taking on Cobleskill, followed by Morrisville against Keuka, Cazenovia against SUNY IT, Cobleskill against Keuka and SUNY IT wrapping up against Morrisville.
