Lakers top Morrisville State field hockey 5-4 in overtime

Visiting Oswego State Lakers needed extra time to get past Morrisville State field hockey, pulling off a 5-4 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over the Mustangs Wednesday night in Morrisville.



Morrisville State drops to 1-13 overall (0-6 in conference play) while Oswego improves to 7-10 overall, 2-4 in SUNYAC action.



Kelly Collins led the Lakers with two goals and an assist while teammate Alyssa Hare added two tallies. Courtney Collins also recorded a score.



Rebecca Meyer (Morrisville, NY) and Sarah Angerer (Cooperstown, NY) each tallied a goal and assist for the Mustangs, while teammates Rebecca Quackenbush (Barker, NY) and Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, NY) each added a score.



Oswego got off to a quick start, with Kelly Collins netting two within the first six minutes of the contest.



Morrisville State responded by posting two scores within a minute and a half, the first a sweep by Angerer on the left post off a feed from Joanna Tritto (West Babylon, NY) at 8:27. At 9:52, Abby Muraco (Amherst, NY) drove the ball into the center of the circle on a corner play where Quackenbush tipped the ball past Oswego keeper Julie Janusz for the game tying score.



The Mustangs took the 3-2 lead in the 22nd minute, as Anderson collected the rebound and put it past Janusz on the right of the cage.



Minutes before the half, Hare evened the contest at three, collecting her own rebound and firing it past Laura Blumenfeld (Rockland, NY) for the Oswego score.



Hare regained the lead for the Lakers minutes into the second half, tipping the feed from Katie Mazchowski on a penalty corner for the go ahead tally.

In the 62nd minute, Meyer received a pass from Angerer from the center of the circle and fired it into the back of the cage to even the contest for the third time, forcing the overtime sudden victory period.



Dominating the extra frame, Oswego's Collins found Courtney Collins on a cross from the left to the center of the circle for the game winning tally.



Janusz posted seven saves in the win for the Lakers as Oswego had a 28-22 advantage in shots over Morrisville State.



Blumenfeld had 10 saves in the loss for the Mustangs, including one in the overtime period.



Morrisville State returns to the field next Wednesday, traveling to St. John Fisher College.
