The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its winter players of the week, naming Morrisville State's Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) the Ice Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending December 5.

The junior forward led Morrisville State to a 1-0-1 weekend, scoring twice (one power play) against No. 15 ranked Buffalo State College in a 3-3 overtime draw Friday night, and netting both scores in a 2-1 defeat of Fredonia the following night. The game winner over the Blue Devils was a shorthanded tally.

Matzel currently leads the Mustangs in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 12 points as Morrisville State is tied for second in the conference with a 5-2-1 record.

Majoring in business administration at Morrisville State College, Matzel is the son of Kathy and Peter Matzel of Chittenango, New York.
