Despite holding R.I.T. to one goal in the first half, the Mustangs could not hold off the Tigers relentless attack. R.I.T. came out strong, controlling the ball for much of the first half and creating several scoring opportunities that the Mustangs were able to stave off.  R.I.T. kept coming, however, and proved to be too much for Morrisville State, who dropped their home opener this afternoon 5-1.

C.J. Brunner (Tonawanda, N.Y.) scored first for the Tigers when Coty Winchell (Belfast, N.Y.) crossed a corner kick into the box that Brunner was able to head into the goal, breaking the scoreless tie at 40:49.

Jimmy Forbes (Manlius, N.Y.) tallied R.I.T.’s second goal after taking a pass from Jon Price (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) down the right side of the field and ripping a shot far post, past Mustangs goalkeeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.). Geno Rocco (Apalachin, N.Y.) headed a pass from Forbes at 64:00 to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage.

The Mustangs continued to fight and answered back with their lone goal of the contest just under two minutes later. After creating several scoring opportunities, Morrisville State earned a penalty kick after an R.I.T. defender was charged with a handball in the box. Freshman defender Danny Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) slotted the ball past R.I.T. goalkeeper Sean Conway (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and recorded his first collegiate goal at 65:48.

Kurt Spiegel (Monroe, N.Y.) finished off the scoring for the Tigers with the final two goals.

Rob Larkin recorded the loss for the Mustangs, making 8 saves, while Sean Conway earned the win with one save.

Morrisville State falls to 1-2 overall with the loss. They return to play on Friday, September 7 at 4PM as they travel to Lancaster Bible to open conference play.
