MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College student Justin Quiles, of White Lake, was recently awarded the Dr. McBride Criminal Justice Student Achievement Award by the SUNY Police Chiefs Association.
A junior in the college’s criminal justice bachelor degree program, Quiles is the first Morrisville student to receive the award since it was instituted in 2001.
The award, based on academics, service to the community and interest in a career in law enforcement, is given annually in recognition of Dr. Bruce McBride, retired commissioner of the NYS University Police (UP), who was instrumental in the evolution of the UP agency and establishing the professional requirements for UP officers.
Quiles, who is pursuing a career in federal law enforcement, has excelled academically at MSC, receiving a transfer scholarship, and was also named to the Dean’s List and Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society.
A 2012 graduate of Monticello High School, Quiles is the son of Suzana Zgrada, of Monroe.
