The Morrisville State College men's ice hockey team fell 6-3 to host and sixth nationally ranked Manhattanville College Sunday afternoon in non-conference action, dropping the Mustangs to 6-5-1 overall on the season.

The Valiants held a 2-0 lead after two periods of play before both teams exploded for seven scores in the final twenty.

Manhattanville extended their lead to three just five minutes into the third, before Morrisville State was able to put one on the scoreboard. Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) netted the score at the 6:15 mark with Curtis Renaud (Carlisle, ONT) and James Jarvis (Pickering, ONT) picked up the assists.

Manhattanville quickly responded, netting their fourth score of the afternoon two minutes later, the eventual game winner, from Ronnie Smith for the three score advantage with just over 11 minutes remaining.

Morrisville State took advantage of a 5-on-3 opportunity with five minutes remaining, cutting the lead to two with a goal from Taylor Vince (Barrie, ONT) and just over a minute later, Rob Sgarbossa (Campbellville, ONT) added another power play score to cut the Manhattanville lead to one.

The Mustangs rally was short lived, though, as the Valiants added their fifth tally of the afternoon 32 seconds later and sealed the win with a power play score in the final minute of play.

Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC) recorded the loss in net, saving 22.

Manhattanville held the 28-22 advantage in shots on goal, and were 2-for-9 in power play opportunities while Morrisville State went 2-for-13 on special teams play.

Morrisville State returns to the ice Friday, hosting #14 ranked Neumann College.
