Morrisville State falls short at Rowan, Profs get 34-21 NJAC victory

Visiting Morrisville State College took an early lead over host Rowan College, but couldn't hold on as the Profs recorded the 34-21 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory Saturday afternoon in Glassboro.



The loss drops the Mustangs to 1-7 overall, 1-6 in conference action while Rowan improves to 7-1 overall, 6-1 in the NJAC.



Morrisville State's Walter Miles (Coram, NY) returned the opening kickoff 39-yards into Rowan territory to set up the Mustangs 12-play, 46-yard scoring drive with 8:20 to go in the first quarter on a two yard run from Sean Barrett (Hopewell Junction, NY) for the early 7-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, a Rowan fumble was recovered by the Mustangs Craig Brennan (Bay Shore, NY) on the Profs 25-yard line leading to a 21-yard pass play and followed by a four-yard touchdown run from Peter Enriquez (Staten Island, NY) for the 14-0 advantage.



Rowan responded with 2:34 to go for their first score of the afternoon, as Keith Corcoran completed a 74-yard drive with a seven yard run for the touchdown score. A high snap on the ensuing drive for the Mustangs went through the back of the endzone, resulting in a safety scored for the Profs, cutting the Morrisville State lead to six.



In the second quarter, Rowan scored two touchdowns in less than a minute to take the 23-14 lead before Joe Shue (Fulton, NY) found Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY) on a 70-yard pass play, cutting the Profs lead to two with less than three minutes to go in the half.



Antonio Regalbuto put the Profs up by five as time expired in the half, hitting a 32-yard field goal for the 26-21 lead.



In the third, Tim Haggerty found Corcoran for the final Rowan score of the afternoon, a 17-yard pass, completing the 54-yard drive with 10:14 remaining in the quarter, for a 34-21 lead.



Enriquez and Barrett combined for 64-yards rushing for the Mustangs as Shue completed 12-of-26 passes for 150-yards and a score.



Anthony Brown (Rochester, NY) led the Morrisville State defensive efforts with 13 total tackles, four solo, as Enrique Robinson (St. Paul, MN) added eight. Sam Pelham (Voorheesville, NY) added seven, including two sacks for a loss of 13-yards.



Haggerty completed 16-of-30 passes for 234-yards and two scores, adding 59-yards on nine carries on the ground to lead Rowan.



Myles Drummond led the receiving unit with 102-yards on eight catches. Jerome Gordon had 10 total tackles for the defensive unit, as Kyle Kane and Matt Hoffman each added seven.



Morrisville State is on the road for the final time in 2010 at Buffalo State College next Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m. in Buffalo.
