Morrisville State field hockey suffers 8-1 setback to Utica

Morrisville State College field hockey struggled early Saturday, suffering an 8-1 setback to non-conference Utica College in Utica.

Morrisville State falls to 1-2 overall, while Utica remains untouched at 3-0.

Kissandra Blaiser (Canastota, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal for the Mustangs, notching the score late in the second half off an assist from Ilze Stots (Clinton Corners, N.Y.).

Nicole Gregg (Lisle, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net despite an 11 save effort, allowing five goals in the first half of play. Ellen DePasquale (Vernon, N.Y.) turned away nine in the second half, allowing three scores, as Utica held the significant 33-3 advantage in shots.

Utica jumped out to an early 4-0 lead just 14 minutes into the contest and added three more before Morrisville State was able to get on the board. Three notched two scores a piece for the Pioneers, including Alaina Stojkovski who also added an assist on the day.

Olivia Cunningham recorded the win in net.

Morrisville State returns to the field Tuesday, traveling to Hartwick College.
