The Morrisville State College men's ice hockey team dropped their fourth straight contest of the season, falling 5-4 in overtime to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Cortland Friday night in Cortland.

The loss puts the Mustangs at 1-4-0 overall, while Cortland improves to 3-2.

Todd Hosmer (Scarborough, ONT) led the Mustangs with two goals on the night, while Jamie Nelson (Stratford, ONT) and Alex Tillaart (Ashburn, ONT) each tallied a score. Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) and Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) assisted two apiece.

The Mustangs put the first score on the board, 13:13 into the first period as Nelson knocked in a loose puck on the left post, but Cortland quickly answered with their own tally with a Ryan Durocher score.

Morrisville State regained the lead 2-1 with a power play score with less than three minutes to go in the period with a one-time slap shot from Tillaart.

In the second, Cortland posted three straight – two on power plays and one a short handed tally, for the 4-2 advantage before Hosmer cut the Dragon lead to one with his first tally of the night in the 12th minute.

Hosmer evened the contest at four six minutes into the third with a wrist shot on the left side of the ice, forcing the overtime period.

A boarding penalty whistled against the Mustangs just over a minute into the overtime period proved to be costly, as Michael Lysyj tallied his second score of the night to give Cortland the conference victory.

Colin Breen (Waterloo, ONT) recorded the loss in net, making 26 stops, including 11 in the third period alone.

Mike Reilly posted the win, saving 37.

Morrisville State returns to the ice tomorrow, traveling to nationally topped rank Oswego State for a 7 p.m. face-off.
