Morrisville State College men's ice hockey posted three scores in the final period to net a 6-3 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over rival SUNY Cortland Friday night in Morrisville.

Cortland was first to strike, netting a Red Dragon goal just 1:21 into the first as Ryan Durocher put one past Morrisville State netminder, Colin Breen (Waterloo, ONT), for the only Red Dragon lead of the contest.

Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) tallied the equalizer midway through the period, cutting up center ice to receive a pass from Bobby Cass (Burlington, ONT) for the score. Rob Sgarbossa (Campbellville, ONT) was also credited with an assist.

In the second, James Jarvis (Pickering, ONT) put the Mustangs up 2-1 two minutes in, netting the goal off assists from Curtis Renaud (Carlisle, ONT) and Daniel Morello (Vaughan, ONT). Matt Salmon (Orillia, ONT) extended the lead to two, netting a power play score at the close of the period.

In the final frame, Joey Christiano put a short-handed score past Breen to cut the lead to one, but Morrisville State responded with a score from Adam Hercules (Scarborough, ONT) to regain the two goal advantage. Minutes later, Renaud posted his first tally of the night, netting the one-timer off an assist from Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) for the 5-2 lead.

Cortland posted a final score at 19:24 on a power play, but following a Cortland timeout, Matzel collected an empty net score to secure the victory for Morrisville State.

Breen posted 43 saves in his first collegiate start for the Mustangs, including 23 in the second period.
