Sophomore Taylor Vince (Barrie, ONT) scored once and assisted another to lead the Morrisville State College men's ice hockey team to a season opening 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over SUNY Potsdam Friday night in Morrisville.

Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY), Todd Hosmer (Scarborough, ONT), and Patrick Stillar (Burlington, ONT) each tallied a goal for the Mustangs in the victory.

Colin Breen (Waterloo, ONT) recorded 45 saves between the pipes, including 20 in the final period, to secure the win for the Mustangs.

Just over seven minutes in, Morrisville State registered its first goal of the night, as Matzel collected the rebound off a Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) shot to give the Mustangs the one goal advantage.

Just over four minutes later, Vince tallied another for Morrisville State, one-timing the pass from Hosmer past Dylan Ellis (Oakville, ONT) for the two goal advantage. Vince's tally proved to be the eventual game winner.

Nearly seven minutes into the second period, Stillar posted on the right hand side of the crease and tipped the feed from Vince into the back of the net, giving the Mustangs the 3-0 lead.

Potsdam was able to muster a score midway through the second period, as Brett Waters (Uxbridge, ONT) connected with Kevin Carpenter (Colorado Springs, CO) for the Bears score.

With just over five minutes remaining in the game, Morrisville State's James Jarvis (Pickering, ONT) forced a Potsdam turnover at the blue line and hit Matt Beer (Corunna, ONT) who found an open Hosmer to seal the victory for the Mustangs.

Ellis had 23 saves in the loss for the Bears who return to the ice tomorrow against Southern New Hampshire.

Morrisville State returns to the ice tomorrow, hosting conference rival Plattsburgh State at 7 p.m. in Morrisville.
