Morrisville State hockey plays to draw with #15 Buffalo State

Morrisville State College hockey gave up three unanswered Bengal goals in the third period, playing to a 3-3 overtime draw against nationally ranked (15) Buffalo State College, Friday night in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action in Buffalo.



Morrisville State stands at 4-3-1 overall, 4-2-1 in SUNYAC play. Buffalo State is 6-2-2 overall, 4-2-2 in the conference.



Just 55 seconds in Morrisville State took advantage of an early Bengal penalty, as Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) and Derek Matheson (Durham, ONT) connected with Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) for the score.



Matzel added his second of the night at 9:36, giving Morrisville State the two goal advantage. Curtis Renaud (Carlisle, ONT) and Tyler Swan (Barrie, ONT) were credited with the assists.



After a scoreless second period, Morrisville State took the 3-0 lead with a goal from Rob Sgarbossa (Campbellville, ONT), but the Bengals responded with two straight scores within 39 seconds of one another on power play opportunities to cut the Mustang lead to one with just over 11 minutes remaining in the contest.



With 1:08 remaining, Buffalo State pulled goaltender, Kevin Carr, for the extra man, and converted the game tying score with just two ticks remaining on the clock in regulation to force the overtime period.



Morrisville State goaltender, Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC), turned away two in the overtime period to force the tie, tallying 33 total saves on the night for the Mustangs.



Carr made 31 stops in net for the Bengals.



The Mustangs, who have posted a 2-1-1 record against nationally ranked teams return to the ice tomorrow night against Fredonia.
