Morrisville State hockey posts 5-4 come from behind victory over Brockport

Freshman defender Anthony Scornaienchi (Stoney Creek, Ont.) registered two goals and assisted one to lead host Morrisville State College to a 5-4 come from behind victory over the visiting SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) hockey action Friday night in Morrisville.

The win is the first for the Mustangs in 2012, as they improve to 1-10-1 overall, 1-6 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles drop to 3-8-1, 3-4 in SUNYAC action.

Morrisville also got numbers from Matt Scherer (Elgin, IL) Marc-Antoine Chaput (Mascouche, Que.) and Ryan Marcuz (Richmond Hill, Ont.) who each added a goal. Jamie Nelson (Stratford, Ont.) and Mike Dolman (Hawthrone, N.J.) each tallied two assists, while Steve Dol (Ingersoll, Ont.) and Marcuz added one apiece.

Jakob Rasmussen (Vellentuna, Swe.) posted the victory in net for the Mustangs, turning away 24 as Morrisville held the 35-28 edge in shots on goal.

Brockport was led by Chris Cangro, Jeremy DeFazio and Troy Polino who each tallied a goal and an assist, while teammate Matt Deluca added three assists of his own. Chris Luker also added a goal.

Aaron Green recorded the loss between the pipes, turning away 30, including 16 in the second period.

Morrisville State found the back of the net early in the first period, as Scornaienchi scored an unassisted goal just over six minutes in.

Brockport responded with a goal in the 11th minute, as Luker converted a Golden Eagle power play for a score.

In the second, Brockport tallied two more goals in the first ten minutes of the period, as DeFazio and Polino each found the back of the net, giving the Golden Eagles a two goal advantage.

Scherer brought Morrisville State to within one to end the second period, connecting on a feed from Dol, bringing the score to 3-2.

Scornaienchi and Chaput scored within 20 seconds of one another in the 6th minute of the third period, giving Morrisville State a one goal advantage.

Brockport quickly answered back as Cangro scored in the 8th minute evening the game at four.

Marcuz finished a pass from Dolman to score the game winning goal in the 16th minute of the third period, securing the win for the Mustangs.

Morrisville State returns to the ice on Saturday, as they host SUNY Geneseo.
