Morrisville State hunt seat records season best weekend

The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team placed third on Saturday and were reserve champions on Sunday as they hosted a double show at the Fearon Road barn.



On Saturday, the Mustangs fell just one point shy of reserve team honors, compiling 29 team points to finish third behind show champion, Skidmore, and reserve champion Siena.



Katie Northrup (Brighton, NY) and Kathryn Curto (Bohemia, NY) each qualified for the regional championships in the novice equitation on the flat class following their second place performances on Saturday.



Top finishers for the Mustangs were Emma Monte (East Rochester, NY) in the intermediate equitation over fences class, Emily Overend (Lansing, KS) and Catherine O'Donnell (Huntington, NY) in the novice fences class, Emma Perreault (Falmouth, MA) in the novice flat class, Alice Smith (Dansville, NY) in the beginner walk trot canter class and Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, NY) in the walk trot canter class.



Show results were as follows: Skidmore 45, Siena 30, Morrisville 29, Colgate 29, Cobleskill 24, Hartwick 22, Oneonta 21, Albany 18, and RPI 12.



On Sunday, eight took home blue ribbon honors for Morrisville State as they fell just two points shy of claiming show team champion honors from the defending national champion Skidmore College. Teal Pedersen (Manorville, NY) and Rachel Kenney (Esperance, NY) tied for high point rider with three other riders, with Pedersen winning the ride-off competition for the honor.



Pedersen swept competition in the intermediate equitation over fences and intermediate flat classes while Kenney swept the novice equitation over fences and novice flat classes with two first place finishes. Ashley Bliss (Walworth, NY) added a first in the novice over fences class.



Jill Featherly (Hilton, NY) won the blue ribbon in the open equitation on the flat class, as Curto added a first in the novice fences class. Allison Soukup (Pine Bush, NY) rounded out top finishers for the Mustangs with a first in the novice equitation on the flat class.



Skidmore took the show champion honors with 45 points, followed by Morrisville with 43, Siena 30, Colgate 27, Hartwick 26, Albany 21, Cobleskill 19, RPI 18 and Oneonta 12.



Morrisville State is on the road at Skidmore on Saturday.
