Morrisville State hunt seat team opens season with reserve team honors at Skidmore

The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team opened the 2010-11 season at Skidmore Saturday morning, earning reserve champion honors at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) show in Saratoga Springs.



Three Morrisville State riders posted place finishes to qualify them for the regional championships at the end of the season; Renee Petruzzelli (Clifton Springs, NY) and Katherine Irace (Goshen, NY) in the walk trot canter class and Nicole Hallenback (Fonda, NY) in the novice equitation over fences class.



In her first intercollegiate show, freshman Teal Pedersen (Manorville, NY) posted first place finishes in the intermediate equitation over fences and intermediate equitation on the flat classes to earn high point rider honors for the show.



Other blue ribbon winners for the Mustangs were: Emma Monte (East Rochester, NY) in intermediate equitation on the flat; Taylor Carey (Albany, NY) and Hallenback in the novice equitation over fences; Rachel Kenney (Esperance, NY) in the novice equitation on the flat class and Rachel Mikrut (Delanson, NY) in the beginner walk trot canter class.



Skidmore won the show with 49 team points, followed by Morrisville and Cobleskill with 34, Colgate 29, Hartwick 26, RPI 23, Siena 23, Albany 21 and Oneonta 12.



Morrisville State returns to the riding arena Saturday at the Hartwick IHSA show.
