Morrisville State men stun Potsdam with 14-13 overtime win

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team shocked host SUNY Potsdam Tuesday afternoon with a 14-13 overtime victory over the Bears in Potsdam.



Morrisville State improves to 3-1 overall with the victory, while Potsdam drops to 3-3.



The Mustangs trailed 10-8 heading into the final quarter before rallying for five unanswered scores in the fourth, including one by Andrew Stein (Oswego, NY) with 29 seconds remaining to force the overtime period.



In the sudden victory overtime period, Brandon Macera (Chittenango, NY) picked up a loose ground ball at the top of the box and drove right, firing the game winner past Potsdam keeper Stefan Sloma with 31 seconds remaining on the clock for the non-conference win.



Macera led Morrisville State with three goals and an assist as the Mustangs had balanced attack scoring from six others, including Adam Lewis (Painted Post, NY) and Stein with two goals and two assists each. Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, NJ) tallied two scores and assisted another while teammates Thomas Owens (Cazenovia, NY) and Devon Maxwell (Culver City, PA) each tallied two goals. Kevin Wilkerson (Nedrow, NY) rounded out Mustang scoring with a goal, while Dean Priest (Hinesburg, VT) tallied an assist.



Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, NY) recorded the win in net, saving 11, including two in the overtime period.



Sean McAuliffe and Ryan Paparella each tallied three goals to lead the Bears as Robbie Ashlaw had a game high six assists. Sloma had seven saves in the loss.



Potsdam held the 40-34 advantage in shots and topped the Mustangs 45-35 in ground balls.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday and looks to defend their conference title, opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action against Keuka College at 2 p.m. on Drake Field.
