Morrisville State men tame Fighting Tigers, net 15-3 win over Cobleskill

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team used a huge fourth quarter offensive attack to defeat North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent SUNY Cobleskill by a 15-3 decision Wednesday night in Morrisville.



The Mustangs improve to 5-3 on the season, 2-0 in conference play, while Cobleskill dropped to 1-6 overall, 1-2 in NEAC action.



Seven different players posted goals for Morrisville State, with Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.) leading the Mustangs charge for the second straight contest, netting five goals and assisting another, while teammate Jack Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y.) added three goals, assisting one. Andrew Stein (Oswego, N.Y.) and Kevin Wilkerson (Nedrow, N.Y.) each tallied two, as Dean Priest (Hinesburg, Vt.), Richie Fischer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Matt Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out Morrisville scoring with one apiece.



Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) recorded the win in net, making six stops as Morrisville State held Cobleskill to just nine shots on goal, 21 total in the contest.



Pete Gonzalez (West Islip, N.Y.), Jeff Fichtner (Rochester, N.Y.) and Dan Scott (North Babylon, N.Y.) each tallied goals in the Cobleskill efforts. Eric Randazzo (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the loss between the pipes, turning away 20.



Morrisville State posted two goals in both the first and second quarters to claim the 4-1 lead at the break.



The Mustangs added just one in the third, before exploding for 10 fourth quarter tallies for the victory, including seven straight to end the quarter.



Morrisville State out shot Cobleskill 59-21 and won the ground ball battle 42-22, while forcing 33 Fighting Tiger turnovers.



The Mustangs return to the field Friday, hosting Wells College at 4 p.m. on Drake Field.
