The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team opened the 2011 season campaign Saturday afternoon with an 11-10 non-conference victory over visiting SUNY Oswego on Drake Field in Morrisville.

In a back and forth first half battle, Oswego held the 7-6 advantage at the break before Morrisville State tallied four unanswered scores in the third quarter, two on man up opportunities, for the 10-8 lead.

Oswego's Brett Sarrubi (Albany, NY) tied the contest for the seventh time with a score with 3:18 remaining, but it was Morrisville State's Tom Longland (Dunnville, ONT) who forced a turnover and hit attackman Adam Lewis (Painted Post, NY) on a fast break clear, for the game winning tally with 1:52 to go that put the game in the books for the Mustangs.

Eight Mustangs netted scores on the afternoon, including Lewis with two tallies. Kevin Wilkerson (Nedrow, NY/Lafayette) and Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, NJ) each added two scores and an assist. Brandon Macera (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) led the Mustangs with three assists, adding a score.

Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, NY) recorded the win in net, saving eight.

Chris Porten (Auburn, NY/Auburn), Andy Lever (Lindenhurst, NY) and Sarubbi each tallied two goals for the Lakers in the loss, Lever adding two assists.

Ian O'Brien (Gansevoort, NY) recorded the loss, making four stops for the Lakers.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, hosting SUNY Brockport at noon on Drake Field.
