Morrisville State men's lacrosse suffers 13-4 setback to Potsdam

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team struggled offensively Wednesday afternoon, suffering a 13-4 setback to non-conference opponent SUNY Potsdam, in Morrisville.

Morrisville State drops to 2-2 overall, while Potsdam improves to 2-1.

Kyle Nicholas led all scorers on the day, netting four goals for Potsdam as Peter Pike added three tallies, while assisting three others. Mike Quinlan picked up the win in net, making 12 stops.

Morrisville State was led by Kevin Wilkerson (Nedrow, N.Y.) with two scores, with Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.) and Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) each adding one in the Mustang efforts. Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) recorded 18 saves in the loss, including six in the final quarter.

After a scoreless first quarter, Potsdam posted two straight tallies within 45 seconds to take a 2-0 lead, and added a third minutes later before Beresovoy was able to put one on the board for the Mustangs.

In the second, Potsdam added three more, claiming the 7-2 advantage heading into the final frame.

Morrisville State netted two quick goals in an effort to put together a comeback attempt, but Potsdam sealed the win with three additional tallies for the 13-4 final.

Potsdam held the 42-26 advantage in shots and won the ground ball game by a 36-24 margin, also dominating the face-offs 15-6.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, hosting Plattsburgh at 3 p.m. on Drake Field.
