Morrisville State men's lax drops home opener, 11-7, to UNE

The Morrisville State College men’s lacrosse team dropped their home opener by a 11-7 final Tuesday afternoon to visiting University of New England, in near blizzard conditions on Drake Field in Morrisville.

The Mustangs are off to a 0-4 start on the season and will return to the field Saturday, hosting non-conference rival SUNY Oswego at 11 a.m. on Drake Field. The Nor’Easters improve to 4-2.

Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) and David Middlemore (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts with two scores apiece, while teammates Joseph Chazen (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Louis Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) and John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) each posted one. Chazen and Geswaldo also added assists.

Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded the loss between the pipes, turning away 17, including seven in the second quarter.

Tyler Thomas and Pat Wolfe led UNE with three goals each, while Dan O’Gorman added a tally and assisted four others. Jay Letendre posted the win in net for the Nor’Easters,

making 16 stops.

Both teams played even throughout a majority of the first quarter until 4:54 remaining when a Shamus Higginbottom tally ignited a 3-0 run by UNE to take a 6-3 lead early in the second quarter.

Geswaldo brought the Mustangs to within two to send the game into the break trailing 6-4.

Wolfe posted back to back scores in the third to give the Nor’Easters a four goal cushion, and eventual win as both teams rounded out the remainder of the contest with even scoring.

UNE held the 42-30 advantage in shots over Morrisville State, and edged them in ground balls 51-43.
