Morrisville State softball drops pair to Cazenovia

The Morrisville State College softball team dropped a pair of contests Tuesday afternoon, falling to rival Cazenovia by scores of 14-6 and 7-6 in double-header North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Cazenovia.



Morrisville State dropped to 9-13 overall, 4-10 in conference play.



In the first of the day's action, Cazenovia opened the contest with six scores in the bottom of the first inning, but Morrisville State battled back over the next two innings, cutting the lead to just one before the Wildcat bats exploded in the third for seven additional runs en route to the 14-6 victory in five innings.



Three went 2-for-3 from the plate for Morrisville State, including Kayla Walker (Oneida, N.Y.) who also registered an RBI on a double.



Maranda Owens (Brookfield, N.Y.) recorded the loss on the mound, throwing four innings, while allowing nine hits and 14 runs (11 earned).



In the nightcap, Morrisville State held a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Cazenovia stole the victory, adding two runs to claim the 7-6 win.



Morrisville State was led by Tori Schultz (Taberg, N.Y.) who was 3-for-4 from the plate, adding a run to her tallies on the day, while Samantha Porter (Newfield, N.Y.) went 2-for-4, posting two RBI's on a triple in the second inning.



Paige Jerrett (Parish, N.Y) registered the loss on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing seven hits, seven runs (four earned), while striking out three.



Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Cazenovia in a make-up from an earlier rained out date. The double-header starts at 3 p.m. in Morrisville.
