Morrisville State softball opens NEAC action with sweep of Cobleskill

The Morrisville State College softball team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon, with a 9-4 and 14-9 sweep of the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers in Cobleskill.



The wins boost the Mustangs to 5-5 overall, 2-0 in NEAC action. Cobleskill drops to 0-6 overall, 0-4 in conference play.



In the first of the afternoon, Kayla Walker (Oneida, NY) hit a triple in the first inning to score three runners as Morrisville State took the early 4-0 lead after one.



The Mustangs added a run each in the second and third innings before adding three more in the fifth inning enroute to the win.



Walker was 1-for-3 with a triple and four RBI's from the plate, while teammate Kate Jones (Valley Cottage, NY) went 2-for-4 with a double and triple, tallying two RBI's to lead the Mustangs to the 9-4 victory. Nicole Geier (Mayfield, NY) was 2-for-3 from the plate, scoring twice.



Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, NY) recorded the win for the Mustangs, throwing seven innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs, while striking out seven.



In the nightcap, Morrisville State led 8-4 before Cobleskill rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the contest at eight.



In the sixth, Sara Croop (Whitney Point, NY) hit a double to drive in three runs to give Morrisville the 11-4 lead and the Mustangs added three more in the final inning to claim the 14-9 win.



Walker was 3-for-5 from the plate for an RBI and two runs to lead the Mustangs, while Kara Collins (New Berlin, NY) went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI. Croop was 1-for-3 with four RBI's.



Amber Nichilo (Staten Island, NY) threw seven innings for the win, allowing 11 hits, six earned runs, while striking out two.



Morrisville State returns to the field Tuesday, traveling to SUNY Canton for a double header.
