Morrisville State softball splits day four of spring training

The Morrisville State College women's softball team split the day's action, on day four at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.



Morrisville State improves to 3-3 overall on the season.



In the day's opener, Cumberlands scored five unanswered runs in the second inning to hand Morrisville State the 8-2 loss.



The Mustangs were able to put two runs on the board in the fifth, but were unable to overcome the Cumberland deficit down the stretch.



Gabby Gallart (Montgovery Village, MD) led the Mustangs from the plate with a hit and an RBI. Amber Nichilo (Staten Island, NY) recorded the loss on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing five hits and eight runs, striking out two.



In the second of the day, Cassandra Smith (Lansing, NY) opened scoring for the Mustangs with a homer in the second inning, and Nichilo poked a three-run homer over the fence in the third, en route to a 6-2 victory over Hilbert College.



Kate Jones (Valley Cottage, NY) added a solo homer in the sixth contributing to the win.



Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, NY) threw the win for the Mustangs, pitching seven innings and allowing seven hits and two runs, striking out seven.



Morrisville State returns to the field Thursday, playing a double-header against Baptist Bible College.
