Morrisville State softball takes SUNY IT to extra inning

The Morrisville State College softball team dropped two conference games Friday afternoon to SUNY IT in Morrisville by a 5-2 and 13-0 final.



Morrisville State drops to 5-7 overall, 2-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. SUNY IT improves to 10-3 overall, 6-0 in conference play.



Morrisville State held a 2-1 lead over the top ranked conference team after six innings, but SUNY IT rallied for the game tying run in the top of the seventh to force the extra frame.



In the eighth, Nicolette Kennedy hit a triple, scoring two, before crossing home herself on a single from Kwanisha Jones for the 5-2 victory.



Kate Jones (Valley Cottage, NY) led the Mustangs from the plate, hitting 2-of-3 for an RBI, while Kayla Walker (Oneida, NY) and Gabby Gallart (Montgovery Village, MD) each were 2-for-4. One of Gallart's hits was a double.



Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, NY) threw the loss for Morrisville State, allowing eight hits in eight innings, five earned runs, while posting six strike outs.



In the night cap, SUNY IT posted a 6-0 lead at the end of four innings, before crossing home plate seven more times in the fifth for the 13-0 conference victory.



Eileen Farrell (Johnsonville, NY) and Jones recorded the lone hits for the Mustangs, each going 1-for-2 from the plate.



Amber Nichilo (Staten Island, NY) allowed 10 hits in 33 batters faced, striking out three in five innings pitched.



Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, traveling to Keuka.
