Morrisville State stunned by Medaille, fall 10-9 in NEAC semi's; Medaille to meet Keuka in Championship final

Top seeded Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team had their tournament title chances halted Saturday afternoon as fourth seed Medaille College stunned the Mustangs with the 10-9 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) semifinal victory in Morrisville.



Morrisville State drops to 10-4 overall, while Medaille improves to 8-6 and advances to meet second seed Keuka for the tournament title.



Jack Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.) each posted three goals to lead Morrisville State's efforts, while Andrew Stein (Oswego, N.Y.) and Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) rounded out Mustang scoring, tallying a combined three scores.



Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) registered 11 saves in the loss for Morrisville.



Brock Levick (Newmarket, Ont.) led the Medaille Mavericks with four goals and an assist, while Joe Kozovski (Ajax, Ont.) added three tallies. Drew Belica (Orchard Park, N.Y.) rounded out top scoring for Medaille with a goal and three assists.



Sean Kettles (Churchville, N.Y.) posted the win between the pipes, turning away 12, including four in the final quarter, to secure the win for Medaille.



Morrisville State led 5-4 at the half, before Medaille posted three goals in the third, to head into the final quarter tied at seven.



Medaille opened the final quarter with two straight tallies from Levick to take the 9-7 lead, and Morrisville State responded with two scores as well, but an unassisted tally from Jake Engleman (Orchard Park, N.Y.) with 4:49 to go put the Mavericks in front for the eventual win.



Morrisville State held the 46-29 advantage in shots and edged the mavericks in faceoffs 11-10, but Medaille won the ground ball battle 30-21.



Medaille advances to face second seed Keuka who topped Cazenovia by a convincing 16-6 decision in the second of the day's semi-final action.



James Voigt (Penn Yan, N.Y.) tallied three goals and four assists, while teammate Mike Crumlish (Rochester, N.Y.) posted three and assisted another to lead the Storm back to the championship title game for the third straight season. Five additional Keuka players tallied goals, including Gino Marcello (Rochester, N.Y.) who posted two and assisted one.



Eric Saltrelli (Webster, N.Y.) posted the win in net for the Storm, turning away 11 in 56:12 of play, and was relieved by Scott Thielman (Amherst, N.Y.) for the final 3:48, who registered two saves.



Cazenovia's Jevon Pakkala (Newfield, N.Y.) led the Wildcat efforts with two goals, while four additional teammates recorded one tally each, including Cory Tilton (Central Square, N.Y.) who registered a score and an assist.



Pat Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded the loss in net for Cazenovia, making 14 stops, as the Wildcats fell to 7-8 overall.



Tilton gave Cazenovia the early 1-0 lead, but Keuka rattled off 12 straight to take the commanding 12-1 lead into the half.



After trading a score each in the third, Keuka's Mike Donals (Livonia, N.Y.) posted two straight for the Storm to go up 15-2, before Cazenovia rallied to post a four goal final effort in the last nine minutes of the contest.



Keuka held the 43-31 advantage in shots and won the ground ball battle 35-18, while dominating faceoffs 17-9.



Keuka and Medialle meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville for the NEAC Tournament title. In an earlier meeting this season the Storm won, 13-10.
