The Morrisville State College volleyball program is looking forward to moving in a new direction in 2012, under guidance of new head coach Fred Wallace.
Early on, the squad has been hard at work becoming familiar with newcomers to the team this season, as well as new systems that are being put into place. With a solid group returning to the roster, Wallace believes that the newcomers will also have a real shot at seeing time on the court.
The season, according to Wallace, will be defined by the squad’s ability to remain focused. “Whenever a new system, or new coach is put into place, it can be a daunting task to remain focused for a long period of time,” Wallace said. “The team has talent, and is working at an incredibly high level of effort during the preseason. We need to continue to do so for the entire season.”
Morrisville State posted a disappointing 4-24 record in 2011 and is looking to put that behind them as they move towards a new era, beginning Saturday.
“I believe this team is going to shock a few people as the season wears on,” Wallace said. “They are a dedicated group of young women that are anxious to learn and be successful.”
The Mustangs take the court for the first time in 2012 on Saturday at D’Youville College in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) – North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Challenge in Buffalo.
