Morrisville State western equestrian team concludes season at IHSA National Championships

The Morrisville State College western equestrian team concluded the 2010-11 season at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships, held in Lexington, Kentucky over the weekend.



Morrisville State claimed the seventh place American Quarterhorse Association (AQHA) team competition trophy following top ten finishes by team members in each class. Catherine Howland (Rutlandtown, VT) was eighth overall in reining and followed with a seventh place finish in open western horsemanship, while team members Margaret Roberts (Weedsport, NY) finished fifth in the advanced class, Breann Schwarting (Earlville, NY) ninth in novice western horsemanship, Tanya Ashford (Wapwallopen, PA) sixth in intermediate western horsemanship and Kelly Hunter (Red Hook, NY) third overall in beginner western horsemanship.



Berry College (GA) claimed the team championship, followed by Oregon State, Black Hawk College, University of Findlay, Utah State, University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Morrisville State, Murray State and Ohio State University.



In individual competition, Howland placed tenth overall (out of 24 riders) in the AQHA High Point Western Rider competition.



Megan Freemantle (Middlefield, CT) finished eighth overall in reining and Wyatt Carbaugh (Greencastle, PA) fifth in the beginner western horsemanship class.



Schwarting earned honorable mention honors in the intermediate class.
