Morrisville State women stage second half comeback, edge Cazenovia 11-10

The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team staged a second half comeback to out score Cazenovia 9-3 in the second half en route to a 11-10 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West victory Saturday afternoon in Cazenovia.



The Mustangs improve to 5-4 overall, and remain undefeated in NAC action at 3-0. Cazenovia drops to 4-6 overall, 2-1 in conference play.



Morrisville State's Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) notched three goals to lead the Mustangs, while teammates Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Lesa Ward (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) each added two, along with an assist apiece.



Danielle Puzio (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded the win in net, making 10 stops.



Melissa Rivera led Cazenovia with five goals as Alicia Priest and Christy Foster each posted two. Christina Marra recorded 11 saves in the loss for the Wildcats.



Morrisville State struggled in the first half as Cazenovia jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Mustangs were able to get one on the board nearly 20 minutes into the contest. Young added a second Morrisville State score seconds before the half, as Cazenovia held the 7-2 advantage at the break.



In the second, Rivera and Priest each posted one for the Wildcats early on, but Morrisville State rattled off seven straight scores to even the contest at nine with 14 minutes showing on the clock.



Lana Lewis broke the tie for Cazenovia at the 13:26 mark to give the Wildcats the one goal advantage, but Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, N.Y.) found the back of the net with an unassisted tally with 7:37 to go to knot the game at 10.



A Cazenovia foul proved to be costly for the Wildcats as Wood took advantage of a free position opportunity and gave Morrisville State its first lead of the contest and eventual victory.



Even in shots and draw controls, Morrisville State held the 24-16 advantage in ground balls for the contest and were perfect on clears (12-for-12).



Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, hosting conference opponent SUNY IT at 6 p.m. on Drake Field.
