Morrisville State women stun Wildcats with 58-57 victory

The Morrisville State College women's basketball team came from behind to edge host Cazenovia College by a 58-57 final, Wednesday night in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Cazenovia.



Morrisville State shot a mere 20 percent from the floor in the first half and found themselves trailing by eight at the break, but posted a 13-4 run over the course of five minutes to open the second half to take take their first lead of the game with 15 minutes remaining in the game.



Both teams traded baskets for much of the remainder of the period, but Morrisville State's Dyshea Smiley (Harlem, NY) gave the Mustangs the lead for good hitting a jumper with less than three minutes to go.



Cazenovia made a final offensive attempt, as Alyssa Lubek hit a three to bring the Wildcats to within one with seconds to go, but Morrisville State held on for the one point victory.



Smiley had 10 points in the win for Morrisville State, six in the final two minutes of the game, as she added four assists and six steals to the Mustang tallies. Jenna March (Munnsville, NY) recorded her first collegiate double-double, netting 10 points and grabbing a team best 11 rebounds, while blocking four shots.



Nijee Scott (Bronx, NY) led Morrisville State with 16 points and 10 rebounds.



Megan McDermott led Cazenovia with 17 points and 10 rebounds as teammate Samantha Allen added 12 points and seven boards in the loss.



Morrisville State improves to 3-12 overall, 3-10 in conference action, and return to the floor Saturday against Penn State Harrisburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the STUAC gymnasium.
