Morrisville State women's lacrosse team defeated by Elmira College, 13-8

The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team lost their season opener Saturday afternoon against the visiting Elmira College Golden Eagles, 13-8.



Morrisville State is now 0-1, while the Eagles rise to 1-0 this season.



Hillary Hartnett (Fairport, NY) led the Mustangs with four goals while Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, NY) added two and Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, NY) and Lesa Ward (South Glens Falls, NY) each added one apiece. Danielle Puzio (Holbrook, NY) recorded the loss in goal for the Mustangs with nine saves. Wood grabbed five groundballs throughout the game.



The Golden Eagles were led by Jordan Donegan and Meghan Pass each had three goals while Jess Blinkinsop and Marissa Mongillo each added two goals. Marki Michaels, Sam Risi and Emma Schepers all had one goal. Michaels and Risi had three and two assists respectively. LeAnne Presler had 14 saves in goal for the Eagles. Donegan, Michaels and Blinkinsop all snatched four groundballs in the game.



Both the Mustangs and Eagles had 28 shots and 22 groundballs in the game and the Eagles capitalized on their one extra man opportunity.



Morrisville State is back in action on March 16 against Westfield State University at 4 p.m. on Drake Field.
