Morrisville State wrestling opens season with 1-3 record at Electric City Duals

Morrisville State College wrestling opened the 2010-11 season with a win over Penn State-Dubois, but fell in three straight matches to post a 1-3 record at the Electric City Duals held at the University of Scranton Saturday.



The Mustangs defeated Penn State-Dubois 30-18 in the first match of the day, fueled by a 125 pound weight class pin by Justin Delamothe (Cross River, NY) over opponent Nick Bogacki in 1:26. Dante Epps (Uniondale, NY) posted a 3-1 decision in the 141 pound weight class for the Mustangs, while Goodson Phillipe (Brentwood, NY) pinned his opponent in 4:52. Morrisville State pulled away in the final five matches, posting four wins with Antonio Hernandez (Binghamton, NY) in the 165 pound weight class with an 8-2 decision, Jeremy Hoyte (Hempstead, NY) at 174 with a 7-2 decision, Joseph Rodriguez (Port Chester, NY) with a 10-9 decision at 184 pounds, and Clarence Sharrock (Sleepy Hollow, NY) at heavyweight with a pin in 3:52.



Against Apprentice, Morrisville State posted two wins, a tech fall by Delamothe and 5-4 decision by Josh Manuel (Nichols, NY) in the 29-8 loss.



In the first of two afternoon matches on the day, Scranton pulled away in the final five weight classes to post a 27-13 victory over Morrisville State. Manuel posted a 7-1 decision at 141, Anthony Statini (Beacon, NY) a 10-3 win at 149 pounds and Phillipe a 7-4 decision at 157 for the Mustangs, before Josue Cardenas (Port Chester, NY) completed Morrisville State scoring with a major decision at 197.



Delamothe and Epps posted tech fall wins in their matches against UMBC opponents as Morrisville State fell 43-10. Delamothe defeated his opponent 16-0 and Epps 17-1 to score the lone match points for the Mustangs.



Morrisville State returns to the mats Saturday at the Ithaca College Bomber Invitational in Ithaca.
